Audio Garage clients purchasing new vehicles in the Fargo area often ask us if a factory remote start system is better than the systems we offer. This is a great question. The answer requires several perspectives, so let’s dive in and see if a factory-installed remote starter is a better solution than ours.
System Performance
In terms of pressing a button and having your car, truck or SUV start, a factory remote starter works the same as an aftermarket system. The question is not so much about starting the vehicle as it is about using the system. Most factory remotes and key fobs provide 200–300 feet of range. If you are leaving West Acres mall near Macy’s and are parked over by the cinemas, it’s unlikely you will be able to remote start your vehicle until you are half-way through the parking lot.
Our remote starter solutions provide as much as 1 mile of range. You can start your car with one of our systems before you even walk out of the mall. Starting your car sooner means that it will have more time to warm up and be more comfortable when you get to it.
System Options
Factory starters are starting to include more and more options for accessory control. In most applications, we can automatically activate your rear window defroster or heated seats if the interior of the vehicle is below a preset temperature. We can configure the runtime of your remote starter to be as long as 60 minutes. Most factory systems don’t have these options.
Is it Really a Factory Remote Start System?
Perhaps the most important question to ask when the dealership offers you a remote starter is to find out if the system was built into the vehicle when it left the assembly line. The alternative is that the dealership is going to have a system installed before delivering the car to you.
Our team of installation technicians has installed thousands of remote starters. We work on automobile electrical systems every day. Our remote starter solutions come from reputable brands like Viper and Autostart. Many systems installed at the dealership level are as inexpensive as possible, offer limited range and aren’t always integrated into the vehicle reliably. At the Audio Garage, we do things right, or we don’t do them at all.
How Our Remote Starter Solutions Work
When you come to us in search of a remote car starter, we’ll ask you a lot of questions and do some quick research on your vehicle. We will let you know what accessory control options are available for the year, make, model and trim level of your vehicle, and what they will cost. We will help you decide how much range will work for your application. Once we have all this information, only then will we suggest the perfect remote starter solution for your application.
Our team will integrate the starter into your vehicle using electrical connection and wiring routing methods that exceed most OEM standards. We check and double-check the vehicle to make sure everything works flawlessly. If you have questions a week or a year after we install your system, we are here to help.
