With colder weather just around the corner, the staff at Audio Garage in Fargo wants to address some of the most common auto start questions we receive each year. The answers to these questions will help make the starter purchasing process easier and explain some of the procedures we use to ensure our clients get a great product and an even better installation.
1. Can I use the remote that came with my vehicle?
In many applications, we can configure your factory remote to start your vehicle when you press the lock button three times in short succession. Keep in mind that a factory remote has a very limited range compared to an aftermarket system. If you work in a building or live in an apartment, a factory remote won’t provide adequate range.
2. How long does a remote car starter installation take?
Depending on the complexity of the vehicle electronics and the options you have chosen, we typically need between two and a half and four hours to complete the integration process. Adding heated seats, door lock actuators or a trunk release solenoid will take longer. We’ll let you know our schedule for your vehicle when we provide the quote.
3. Does the temperature outside affect my remote starter?
Thanks to the high-quality components used in our remote starter systems, your vehicle will perform just as though you were sitting in the driver’s seat. It could be -10 in the middle of February or feel like 100 in June – your remote starter system will work in all temperature conditions.
4. Does a remote start affect the safety of my vehicle?
We don’t eliminate any of the security functions that come with your vehicle. Our electronic interface completes the starting process in about a second, leaving your vehicle locked and fully secure. You still need the original key or key fob to drive away.
5. Can I get a remote starter for my hybrid or diesel vehicle?
Yes! In most cases, the ignition and engine management system on diesel and hybrid vehicles work the same was a those with a gasoline engine. Check with us to confirm your specific application.
6. Do I have to give up my spare key?
In most cases, no. Some rare exceptions use advanced security protocols that do require that we integrate a spare key into the system. Check with us about your specific make, model and trim level, and we’ll let you know what’s required.
7. What does a remote starter cost?
The cost of the starter system depends on your vehicle, the features you want to be integrated into the starter, the type of communication you want with the remotes and the range you need to ensure the car or truck will start when you need it to. Drop by our store and we’ll be happy to prepare a detailed quote for you.
8. Will a remote starter void my warranty?
The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act protects you. So, the short answer is no. The combination of our warranty-friendly installation techniques and the premium products we use ensure that your warranty remains in effect.
9. Is the price you provided an estimate or a quote?
Because we have installed thousands of starters, we know exactly how much time and which components are required for each system. If we have the correct information for your application, you will have the correct price.
10. How do I know which starter system I need?
The product specialists at Audio Garage are here to help explain what functions we can control on your specific vehicle and guide you in choosing a starter system that will provide adequate range to ensure the starter will work when you are at home or work.
